Mirena® IUD

Mirena® is a tiny, soft, flexible T-shaped intrauterine contraception device that is placed in the uterus by a healthcare provider. It blocks sperm from reaching or fertilizing an egg, and thins the lining of the uterus so an egg cannot become implanted.

Mirena® releases small doses of hormones over time directly to the uterus and begins protecting you from pregnancy for up to 5 years (or less if you choose to have it removed). Mirena may also make your periods shorter and lighter after one year of use.
